Aircraft expert who is also a former President of the 3rd Republic of Indonesia, BJ Habibie, has submitted plans to set up a company that pioneered the aircraft industry in Batam, Riau Islands. As a first step, BJ Habibie and BP Batam officials have signed an agreement allocating land area of 62 hectares of the 100 hectares of land to be used as the location of offices, hangars, repair and heavy maintenance (maintenance, repair and overhaul / MRO) by PT Indonesia Aero maintence.

Director of One Stop Services and Public Relations Agency Concession Batam, Dwi Djoko Wiwoho, said that BJ Habibie has expressed its commitment to pioneering the aircraft industry at Hang Nadim International Airport, Riau Islands. "Some time ago, Mr. Habibie has expressed its commitment to pioneering the development of the aviation industry in Batam. He only will blaze for three years, after which he will retire and hand over the management of the aviation industry to the best children of this nation," said Djoko .

Djoko said, it was submitted by BJ Habibie to the Head of BP Batam, Mustafa Widjaja, and several high-ranking BP Batam in Jakarta when the signing of an agreement for the allocation of 62 hectares of the 100 hectares of land to be used as offices, hangars, repair and maintenance of heavy (maintenance, repair and overhaul / MRO) by PT Indonesia Aero maintence (IAM). BJ Habibie served as chairman of the board of the company. "Habibie said just preparing founded the company. Sometime later, the government is expected to take over and manage the aircraft industry company," said Djoko.

Djoko said, BJ Habibie believes that within three years the company will grow rapidly so it can run itself. "Another goal of BJ Habibie to pioneer the aircraft industry in Batam is to further benefit from the strategic position of Batam. Not just Singapore and Malaysia are benefiting," said Djoko when playing back the recorded speech of BJ Habibie.
