The Aviation News. SilkAir airline plans to serve the Singapore-Semarang route to be opened on July 29, 2013, and the Singapore-Makassar route that will soon be served from August 1, 2013. SilkAir will operated two Airbus A319 aircraft and A320 to serve both the new route. Singapore-Semarang route will be operated by SilkAir three times a week, while the Singapore-Makassar route serviced 3 times a week as well.

SilkAir, a regional airline owned by Singapore Airlines widen its wings in Indonesia. The airline plans to add flights to two cities in Indonesia to increase its network to be 11 flight routes. SilkAir will open a Singapore-Semarang route starting July 29, 2013, operated three times a week, and Singapore-Makassar route, starting August 1, 2013, operated three times a week. The new routes will be served by A319 and A320, which provides business-class and economy-class. "SilkAir is excited to add a flight to Makassar and Semarang into our flight network in parts of the region. We were impressed with the growth of air travel to and from Indonesia and we are confident that the two new service will be well received," said Chief Executive SilkAir, Leslie thng , Friday, May 3, 2013.

SilkAir choose two cities is because as the largest city in Central Java, Semarang is considered a center of trade, manufacturing, and construction. Major port during the Dutch colonial era, where Semarang offers a unique combination of European influences and rich Asian culture, and maintaining a mixture of old world charm and colorful cultures.

Makassar, formerly known as Ujung Pandang, is the largest city in eastern Indonesia, and also the main port and aviation hub in the eastern part of Indonesia. It is home to many ethnic groups in Indonesia, including ethnic Bugis and offers many gems of history and nature tourism, and tourism opportunities in and outside the city.

SilkAir operates the first time in Indonesia in August 1992 and has continued to strengthen its network. SilkAir now serves nine destinations in Indonesia, namely Balikpapan, Bandung, Lombok, Manado, Medan, Palembang, Pekanbaru, Solo, and Surabaya.
