Deputy of transport minister, Datuk Abdul Hakim Bakri, also witnessed
the inaugural flight of Malindo Air. In the inaugural flight, Malindo Air doing three flights to Kinabalu city and four flights to Kuching. "We are now flying with two aircraft and will bring in two more aircraft in June," he said.
He plans to operate 12 aircraft by the end of this year. At that time, the fleet is used Malindo Air are Boeing 737-900ER. "In addition to strengthening air transport, we also will help reduce unemployment," said Chandran.
He said 179 candidates had been recruited as pilot of an aircraft which will undergo training provided by Lion Air in Jakarta.
Meanwhile, Abdul Rahim, said the flight carried Malindo Air to Kinabalu helped to increase tourism in Sabah. Abdul Hakim said that last year there were 1.87 million tourists visited Sabah. "With plans of
Malindo Air to use Kinabalu as a second connecting airport, tourists, especially from Indonesia, Korea, Japan and China will be directly connected to Sabah." Abdul Rahim said.
