Garuda Indonesia airline plans to open direct flights from Ambon to Jakarta this year along with increased demand for aviation services in Maluku. "In addition to direct flights from Ambon to Jakarta, we are also opening flights from Ambon to Surabaya to facilitate passengers traveling to the destination," said General Manager of Garuda Indonesia Branch Ambon, Sonny Pongoh, in Ambon, Wednesday, March 27, 2013.

According to Sonny, opening a direct flight route was done because the interests of flights service users in Maluku is increasing. "Since the presence of Garuda Indonesia in Ambon in June 2010, the market survey data showed an interest of flight service users in the route is quite large, so it is considered necessary addition on the route," he said.

Sonny said that the opening of the two routes is an effort to facilitate the passengers to continue the journey to various cities in Indonesia, even to foreign countries. Previously, for a flight from Jakarta to Ambon, it has to go through Makassar, depart from Jakarta at 00:45 local time and arrive in Ambon around 7:35 pm local time, and return to Jakarta at 08.00 local time. "Passengers are still in transit at the Hassanudin Airport in Makassar, and there is no direct flight to Jakarta and Surabaya," he said.

Sony said that Garuda Indonesia will continue to make inroads to promote tourism potential in Maluku to foreign countries by displaying images and data on a magazine published by Garuda Indonesia.
